Recalled products can stay in homes and resale for years. Checking takes two minutes and matters most for children's products, appliances and anything with a battery.
Where to check
- Recalls.gov: links to recalls from all federal agencies
- CPSC.gov and SaferProducts.gov for consumer products
- NHTSA.gov for vehicles, tires and car seats
What you need
The brand, model number and sometimes the manufacture date, usually on a label underneath or inside the product. No label on a children's product? Be cautious.
